During
my tenure we had 48 meeting and 48 personal highlights. Or one could say
that raising 12 new masters provided 12 highlights. In lieu of highlights
(and there were 48 highlights for me in 1994) I prefer to think in terms
of accomplishments of an enduring nature. Two significant things stand out
in my mind as being of an enduring nature. One no more important that the
other. 1. Secretary Truman Burns made the remark that 1994 was the
first year in many years that our lodge had net increase in membership,
exceeding attrition because of deaths, dropouts and other membership
diminishing events. According to Secretary Truman Burns this trend
is sustained through and including 1997. 2. The second enduring
accomplishment I am very proud for the lodge is the Scholarship program.
This began in 1994 when we awarded three $500 scholarships for a total
(including matching) of $1,500. During CY 1998 we will award three $1,000
totaling $3,000; a three fold increase over that humble beginning.
However, the real highlight is knowing that one has worked and been
associated with the men of the craft. Men who so selfishly give of their
time, talents and money in order to accomplish not only things mentioned
above, but numerous charitable works in masonry. Therefore, any highlights
of the year 1994 belong to the craft in Edmond Lodge # 37. |
