January 29, 1920 at the age of 84 years. Worshipful brother Henry Moose the first Master of Edmond
Lodge #37 He was raised a Master Mason in 1864 in Ohio. Served in lodges
in Ohio, Illinois and Arkansas. Was a charter member of Guthrie Lodge #35
as well as Edmond #37. Worshipful brother Moose was also the
first commander of commander #3 Oklahoma City. In 1958, at age of 22 years : Worshipful brother Henry Moose
married Miss Devorie of Ohio. From this union five children
were born. The Civil War broke out on April 12, 1861 and 17 days later : Worshipful
brother Moose enlisted in Company B, 25th Ohio
Infantry. In 1864 Mrs. Moose died In 1965 : Worshipful brother Moose
remarried in to Kate Fergerson or Gentry County Missouri.
From this union there were five children born. From 1865 to 1889 the Moose family lived in Ohio, Illinois,
and Arkansas. He practiced Law, was superintendent of Schools, worked real
estate and served two terms in the Illinois general assembly. By January 1, 1889 : Worshipful brother Moose was 53 years
of age, yet the opening of the "unassigned Lands" of Oklahoma
was a great pull to him and on April 22, 1889 the Moose
family was in Guthrie. While in Guthrie he was involved in the drafting of the first
"article of incorporation" of that new city, gave the first
address on the first 4th of July celebration held in Oklahoma. In September 1889 : Worshipful brother Moose, his wife Kattie and sole surviving child moved to Edmond. He set up a Law practice, worked in real estate, and was involved in politics. In September 1890, he was appointed as the teacher in the first public school in Edmond.
H. H. Moose was the
first Town Clerk and was elected by the citizens of Edmond, Oklahoma
Territory, on May 2, 1892. On July 6, 1904, the position of Town Clerk
was amended to City Clerk. The City of Edmond Charter was adopted on
July 2, 1925, and at that time, the office of City Clerk became an
appointed position by the City Manager but under the supervision and
direction of the Mayor and Council. The Charter was amended April 5,
1977, and the City Clerk is now under the City Manager’s direct
supervision. Since the first Town Clerk was elected, 18 different
citizens have held the title of Town or City Clerk. With the help of John Mitch and Mr. Kerwin :
Worshipful brother Moose was able to promote a $10,000 bond
issue to establish the Normal School (UCO) in Edmond. In the later years their surviving daughter who was totally blind was
admitted to the Masonic home in Darlington Oklahoma. Fortunately she
married after as short stay at the home and was discharged. Mrs.
Late Moose was admitted to the home in 1913 followed by Henry
in 1914.
