Col. Edwin 'Buzz" Aldrin, American Astronaut. In l969 he co-piloted the landing on the moon of the Apollo 11 lunar module, the mission which took the first men to the moon. The photograph of Aldrin on the moon has become the classic image of Man's conquest of space. He was initiated in Montclair Lodge No. 144, New Jersey.
Louis Armstrong (1900-1971), Black American Jazz Musician. Equally at home as a trumpet player (from which he got his nickname of 'Satchmo' and as a singer, he was acknowledged as the world's leading jazz musician of his day. He was a member of Lodge Montgomery No. 18, Prince Hall Affiliation, New York.
Daniel Carter Beard (1850-1941) In 1905, two years before the Boy Scout movement was started in England, he organized the Boy Pioneers, Sons of Daniel Boone. He then organized the Boy Scout movement in America. He was raised in Mariners Lodge N0. 67, New York City.
Tyrus R. 'Ty' Cobb, American Sportsman. He is considered to be one of the greatest baseball players - if not the greatest - of all times. He was initiated in Royston Lodge No. 426, Detroit, Michigan in 1907.
William Harrison 'Jack" Dempsey (1895-1983), American Heavyweight boxing champion of the world in 1919 - retaining the title for seven years. He was a member of Kenwood Lodge No. 800, Chicago, Illinois.
