Investing in the Future of Freemasonry
Institute for Masonic Studies
Perhaps like no other time in our history, Freemasonry today stands on the verge of tremendous change. We are faced with challenges and opportunities, the likes of which have never been seen before. The choices we make today will have lasting and far reaching effects for generations to come.
While we face many challenges, we are equally presented with myriad opportunities to create a new paradigm for Freemasonry. The possibility for positive change is unprecedented in the history of the Craft, if only we have the wisdom to look at ourselves honestly and the courage to act accordingly. This is the key, for we must be willing to take action!
Nearly everyone has heard about the new center of Masonic education that has just opened at the California Masonic Memorial Temple. Officially entitled the Institute for Masonic Studies, the facility will generate a variety of programs to help every member in this Jurisdiction answer for himself what it really means to be a Mason. The Institute also houses the new Henry Wilson Coil Masonic Library & Museum.
On September 28, Grand Master Allen B. Gresham dedicated this wonderful new facility before more than 150 Masons and friends in a beautiful ceremony at California Masonic Memorial Temple. During the last Annual Communication thousands of visitors were thrilled with the new center for Masonic research, learning, and teaching. They enjoyed the Library and Museum's collections and in learning about the many programs that are and will be offered by the Institute.
Great things are happenings at the Institute and we want you to be a part of it. Anyone can point out what is "wrong" with Freemasonry. We are looking at what is right. Together there is nothing we cannot accomplish, my Brothers. As Eliphas Levi said, "In order to do a thing, we must believe in the possibility of our doing, and this faith must forthwith be translated into acts . . . Dare to formulate your desires, then set to work at once, and do not cease acting after the same manner and for the same end; what you want shall come to pass, and by you and for you it has indeed already begun."
